Miami Strikers leading poll
By Pieter Brown - The poll numbers show that the majority of South Florida soccer fans would like the Strikers name brought back for the new NASL. Miami Strikers is currently leading the poll with 42% of the votes.
I’m not too big on Miami Strikers name. I feel that if you use the Strikers name and colors they should play in and be named Ft. Lauderdale. Now that’s not because I live in Broward, which I do, but because I feel if you are going to pull from a legacy you shouldn’t change the name. If MFC is going to play in Miami they should not use Strikers, in my opinion. However I seem to be in the minority according to our poll.
Maybe I’m a stickler for the Strikers to be linked to Ft. Lauderdale because I grew up going to see the Strikers play at Lockhart. Now a new incarnation will never be the same team and things change, I get that, but name and colors should stay the same. If you are going to bring in the old Strikers fans will you really do that if you change the city and logo?
So I guess I’m appealing to not change the history too much of the Strikers. If MFC moves to Broward use the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers, if they stay in Miami keep Miami FC.
All this comes after NASL has trademarked many old team names. Miami FC has trademarked Ft. Lauderdale and Miami Strikers.
So how do you feel? Do you care about history or do you say screw it?
